Entrepreneurs from Central and Eastern Europe Wanted in the UK

Oxygen Accelerator is looking to bring a dozen of entrepreneurs from Eastern Europe and the Baltics, to start businesses in the UK.

Oxygen Accelerator for Eastern European Entrepreneurs

Oxygen Accelerator announces a new UK programme starting this spring and exclusively opened to entrepreneurs of Central & Eastern Europe and the Baltics.

“The region has incredible technical talent and potential, and it is often hard to expand to Western Europe – says Regina Oxygen Community Manager. We want to help with that.”

The program, operating from Birmingham, will offer the selected entrepreneurs an investment of €21,000 and a 13 weeks mentoring program in exchange for 8% equity out of their new businesses.

“You are close enough to London to enjoy its resources and yet it is far much more cost efficient for an entrepreneur to start here”

Backed by the VC firm Fiedler Capital, the program is likely to create some noise for itself and clash with existing stereotypes over migrants from the region.

In the UK press, Eastern Europeans have been accused of creating unfair competition to local British workers and mainly driven by welfare benefit tourism interests.

The Daily Mail echo-ed the paranoia over immigration from Eastern Europe with an article titled “Sold out! Flights and buses full as Romanians and Bulgarians head for the UK” the day before the UK opened its job market to Eastern Europeans last year.

This is clearly not the views of the people behind Oxygen accelerator. The program is exclusively made for people from the region (Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Bulgaria, Slovenia, Croatia, Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia, Ukraine, Belarus, Moldova, Austria), and none else. Any candidate that is not from on of the below country will have to apply to the autumn program instead.

Applications are now open and will close by February 8th. Visa rules for non-EU entrepreneurs are not always easy to navigate. Migreat will support any applicants to the program with any UK visa related queries.
