Chinese and Indians can travel to UK and Ireland on one same visa

China and India are the two first countries that will benefit from the new joint visa scheme signed between Ireland and the UK in October 2014.

Chinese and Indians will be able to travel in between the two countries freely on short stay and visitors visa by the end of October. The scheme started in China by the end of October 2014 and in India this February 2015.

In practice, some Irish short stay visas and some UK visitor visas will allow onward travel to Ireland or the UK. For example, under the scheme an Indian or Chinese visitor in Dublin will be able to make a short trip to London or Belfast without needing a separate visa. Alternatively an Indian or Chinese visitor in London could travel to Dublin or Cork.

Only eligible Irish short stay visas applied for after the scheme starts are covered by the scheme.

The joint scheme will allow more countries to travel in between Ireland and the UK in the soon future. More information can be found on Gov.UK
